Brennan’s Progression

Myles settles in every quarter he has added to his resume, thus far. I saw a glimpse of last season on the drive to get us to 41-7. RPO was effective, passing was decisive and quick, receivers were reliable. One more week before the real test begins, but I’m feeling hopeful for the future. Geaux!

He does look more comfortable, but its vandy

Yeah, I agree. The confidence helps going forward, though. Vandy also held A&M to 17. Just hope the coaching staff doesn’t try anymore 3rd & 1 QB sneaks

RPO was effective

A few throws come to mind.
And i said it before the commentators did.....the short TD pass to Marshall. Brennan threw it directly at the defender, and trusted Marshall to be there. I told my son, “...that was a trust throw!”
Brennan threw two posts, both to the wr from the right side of the formation. The first the threw late, it was completed, but the wr was immediately tackled. The second he threw on much better time, and (I think) Marshall took it to the house. I know a db lost his footing on the play helping Marshall get to the end zone, but the improved timing was there.
This is the learning curve you want to see between games early in ones starting career.

And I don’t mind the back shoulder throws if you can trust the WR. Chase was huge last year turning those plays into points. Marshall has the same ability.

Maybe you’re more geared for the wildcat.

Its his second start since high school and let's be honest even though he lit it up in high school he played for Stanislaus hardly the creme of the crop. If you ask me he's night and day from when he arrived on campus and that's a credit to the coaching staff and watching a legend in Joe burrow for 2 years. He will get better and better the more comfortable he gets.

quote:huh? Wildcat? What are you talking about. Run, Pass. These he can do. It is the option part where the QB can pull it and run. Again, he doesn’t have to be great, just adequate and run every once in a while.
Maybe you’re more geared for the wildcat.
I do not want him to Burrow, I want him to be a threat to run. The threat will loosen up the box and open up the game.

. WHAT? you want effective, let him pull the ball and RUN. That is the key to really being an effective RPO and challenging this season.

You do know that the R in RPO is Running and there is a Running Back he has the option of handing the ball off to don’t you?

quote:Incorrect. That’s a read option. An RPO is where the QB either hands it off to the running back, or Pulls it and throws depending on what the safety does.
It is the option part where the QB can pull it and run.

The OPTION is for him or the back to run. That is an advantage of this offense.
I guess my eyes failed me watching Burrow now pull it and have his Hiesman Moment against Bama YOU PRICK.

Do you remember when our stats against Vandy would be 10-19 for 87 yds?

quote:. Does it have to be the running back run it? Wait, Cam Newton never pulled it and ran, neither did Burrow, Manziel, Trask, etc etc. that is a lack of reading. How many times did you see the back get stopped and he is gone around the other end with zero backers floating towards him BECAUSE HE IS ZERO THREAT.

That was a different play. They are not calling that play for Brennan for the same reason they didn’t call it for Burrow the first half of the season. Brennan was hurt then, and they had no backup. Now the backups are true freshmen who are not ready.

Do you know what RPO is? It’s RUN PASS OPTION. Option means the quarterback has the option to hand it off to the running back or pass the ball depending on what the defense shows him. Designed runs for the QB are completely different. Why is this so hard for you to understand?

True, but under normal circumstances he would have had his first few starts against cupcakes, not SEC competition.
