He’s correct, actually.

Viral exposure is no different than exposure to any other toxin. The more you’re exposed to, the higher the health risk.

The role of the mask is debatable , obviously. But if a respiratory virus requires respiration to transmit (it does), then any attenuation of respiration would also attenuate transmission.

If air doesn’t flow freely, it can’t carry virus nearly as far and wide.

You're addressing a different point of the message. I'm keenly aware of viral load relative to prognosis. There is no evidence that one's wearing of a standard mask affects that. In response to the OP premise, a mask reducing contracted viral load for the wearer was the contention.
