This is one of the toughest districts in the state IMO. Barbe and Sulphur are always in the mix to the west while Acadiana has been to the State Championship what 3 years in a row or something? STM always fields a decent team and will be coming to play. Comeaux is supposedly headed in the right direction and hoping for a surprise season like they had in 06'. Who's your preseason pick for the district title this year?

1) STM - entire O-line comes back, depth at the offensive skills, 3 of the 4 secondary return, 2 of the 3 LBs return, new QB, all new D-line

2) Sulphur - QB/FB/RB/most of the OL gone - LB Taj Jones returns and will probably be the district MVP and Sulphur has huge numbers to find replacements

3) Barbe - QB/RB/OLine gone - didnt have much defense in 2007 and don't expect much in 2008 either

4) Acadiana - lost everything and don't have much in the system right now

5) Comeaux - is still Comeaux but could make a move on 3rd place by beating Barbe in Laffy and winning @ Acadiana

That was pretty much my take on it too. I think STM is going to be really good even with the loss of Mahtook. Barbe and Sulphur are always in the mix because they are always reloading. I would really like to see Comeaux have a good season. They have a good group of guys this year. Alot better than the past couple of seasons thats for sure. From what I've heard they have some size on the lines and they have a couple of game changers with Mike Strentz and Dillion Williams. Both can take over a game. Only problem is I don't see anything changing until they get Langlanais out. Don't get me wrong he's a good guy, comes from the good old boy way of promotion but he isn't a football coach. Hell the SOB has never played a down of football in his life. His staff aren't the sharpest tools in the shed either having played under them for 4 years.

Bourgeois has the most talent to work with but he is spotty

Shaver has the best of everything to work with but seems kind of stubborn and behind the times

Davidson is good when he has O-linemen and a good TB to work with

Langlinais is tough to like and even tougher to support

Hightower gets the most from the least every year

Your assessment of the coaches is spot on Supa. I couldn't have said it better my self. How much longer do you think Long has at Comeaux?

Hmmm...I don't know that I agree with that. St. Julien and Louis Hollier are a couple of good players. I stopped by that football camp at STM. Saw some big linemen from Acadiana over there yanking people around on the tug-of-war.

I have watched STMvsAHS in JV and freshmen the last couple of years and AHS was really really bad. If they have some pieces to work with they really developed them or they transferred in from parts unknown

even some of the AHS coaches were saying last year that they had not had bad classes in a row like they have had recently - FWIW

I have to agree with Supa on this. I've been watching the JV and freshman games for the past 6 years and the last couple haven't been that great for AHS
