"Honestly, unless your from Louisiana or attended LSU, there's no reason you should be a fan, unless you're just following their recent success. There's really no huge tradition of overwhelming success like a USC (or Miami, for that matter)."

There is no history of "overwhelming success",but there is huge tradition...more than Miami.

I'm curious about how you even found this ridiculous, little-man syndrome blog. Were you looking for something like this? Or did you just come across it?

You are probably one of seven people that have ever read this nerd's blog. Now he'll get hits from pissed off LSU fans, thus enabling this little prick to maintain the delusion that he actually matters.

As far as the gist of his ramblings, LSU is pretty much the big dog in the BCS era. Who else has two? Who else equals the Tigers' record in BCS bowl games?

The sun is setting on USUCK and LSU's star is rising. Our Tigahs don't recruit anymore. They reload. We, as fans, will be able to pull for a MNC contender for the forseeable future.

This little worm probably is posting from his mama's basement with a tin-foil hat on. frick him and GEAUX TIGERS!

It is borderline annoying simply because it is in the public perception and thus could actually influence the mind of some poor ignorant sap out there.

But the truth of the matter is that we have as much success recently as Miami had in their entire history by the late '80s when they were a national appeal fan favorite. Plus, we have far more history of success than Miami does, dating back decades before they became a major player on the national scene. When we beat them during our '58 National Championship season, it was not seen as one of the "big games" of that season because they were not a big team the way Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and others were back then.

As for SC, their tradition is not quite as old as ours (we started playing football a bit before they did), but it is indeed more storied (far more championships and heismans, etc.). So that part of it would not bother me.

The thing that I find weird about it is the notion that there is no reason to be a fan of a team other than statehood, alumni status, or success (either recent or historical). Why shouldn't people just be fans of teams they like? If a kid from Michigan likes Jim Leavitt and the South Florida program, why should he not be a fan of the Bulls?

I've met several people up here in DC who have never lived in Louisiana and did not attend LSU, but were big fans of LSU even before we won the title in '03. They love the attitude, the food, the partying, the camaraderie, the people and the fun. Do those people have no reason to be LSU fans?

Also, is it possible that people followed LSU in baseball and became fans of the program due to the fan support in Omaha?

I would say that the quoter is an arrogant a-hole......

If this was the case, I could care less about that University. But, I'm glad it's not the case.

exactly. SEC football fandom in general has always (in my lifetime) awesome for this, as well as the competition brought by the parity of several awesome programs that can't dominate each other.

but above&beyond that, LSU has a style and "soul" that I have seen no equal to. that's why i went there.

This is what i think this guy's theory is.

In 10-15 years, It will be ok to be an LSU fan because of their past. But LSU's success is too recent to be considered a power program.

Umm... so in 15 years, Miami won't have any fans out of state because they will likely never match the Larry Coker era.

Oh come on Miami, dont pull that bear bryant bullcorn. The past means nothing. Our 03-04 and 07-08 seasons are over and do not matter. My suggestion to you is start rooting for LSU because Miami aint going anywhere soon.

Isn't this the reason most people are fans of their teams(except for all of the bandwagon Red Sox fans in Baton Rouge these days.) I mean it's pretty much just a matter of where you were born.

Ya, WTF? My home is split Yankees/Red Sox since both my parents are from Connecticut. My grandfather watched the Sox every day even though the man couldn't see the TV, he just knew shite wasn't going good.

Can't wear my damn hat until the Sox start losing again.

I'm born and raised in Texas.

My Great Uncle played football and baseball for LSU in the 70's.
My Dad attended LSU in the 80s.
