I already assumed this considering there were kids in the vehicle and he was at an address where there was a restraining order for him.. He stole the keys from the girl (I assume was his ex) and was hell bent on getting in the vehicle. If the cops didn't react they would have had a police chase on their hands putting even more people at risk, including kids.
