We need two Constitutional Amendments right now or say goodbye to this country

1) Cap the court to 9 Supreme Court Justices
2) Term limits of Supreme Court Justices to 18 years
We are flirting with the end of our country as we speak. Packing the Court will be the definitive beginning of the end of our Republic. If Biden is elected and packs the court to 13 justices, what happens in 2024 when the Republicans win and pack to 17 justices, and then the Democrats in 2028 when they win and pack the court to 21 justices? We can not survive that as a country. I think this is a national emergency that we do those two amendments, even though they won’t happen. I fear for the future.

I don’t know about the arbitrary 18 years number, but I agree. There’s no reason why an 87 year old in very poor health should have had the opportunity to impact the country from the highest court in the land.

Regardless, it’s the beginning of the end. Packing the courts is the method that will ensure it’s destruction. Whether that’s in 2021 or 2041, this is the issue that will destroy the country. It’s like doing a major dare where you up the ante each time until you’re playing Russian Roulette. Maybe the fatal bullet will be in 2021 maybe it will be in 2025, but each election we will be pulling that trigger until we kill ourselves.

I don’t see any way in the current political climate that an amendment could ever be passed.

I unfortunately agree, but I’m the one in the backseat telling the Republican and Democratic legislatures to turn this car around that is going at 150 miles an hour off of the cliff. This is the clear thing that will kill the country. They’ve been forging a bullet to kill this country for a while, and this is it.

If biden wins and dems gets the Senate before the first term is over... some extremely authoritarian laws will be passed.
Wouldn't surprise me if they eventually did away with voting..and allowed presidents to place their own successors.
Guns will be illegal for citizens to own.
Hate speech laws will be created.

Justices having an unlimited term was the biggest frick up by our founding fathers (with the possible exception of accepting slavery). Future historians (and current really) will see that as fricking insane. A constitutional crisis will be seen as inevitable over this.
