Or the number is actually less due to there not being any other reported illnesses aside from COVID this year

We are trending higher for total deaths YTD from the past several years, however that is not deep enough analysis to say it's entirely driven by Covid. Aggregated numbers don't mean anything. There will be plenty of factors to the increase outside of Covid and the net increase will include plenty of causes that have decreased like accidents.

The real question with Covid is what will the effects on future deaths be and how many of those are driven by shutdowns and unemployment vs. the actual virus. Of course, by the time we get those results nobody will care and will have moved on to the next fake outrage.
