I’ve been looking at building an ar-10 and I stumbled across Brownells and they have some pretty good deals. Under $200 for a fluted 20” barrel my jaw just about dropped

it's all relative as you get what you pay for. That sub $200 barrel is probably chromemoly steel with inferior machine work, poor tolerances, rough chamber and groups like a sawed off shotgun. My suggestion, buy a benchrest quality or reputable name barrel otherwise you'll have a $200 tomato stake.

Additionally if you decide to sell down the road, first questions asked are: what brand barrel, and how does it shoot ? Cutting costs now will only cost you more money in the long run. Buy quality once and be done with it.

Watch this video to see the difference between a cheap factory barrel vs. a quality machined barrel

Had really good luck with Bear Creek Arsenal. But that’s just one person’s opinion. I built a 7.62x39 on a AR platform. Function great and accurate for that round

My AR-15 precision rifle build used a Lilja 6.5 Grendel barrel. When I do my part it'll shoot 3 rounds in 3/4'' groups or smaller at 100 yards. Best groups were sub .5moa using Hornady Black ammo. After I received my barrel I learned they made good muzzle brakes and would time them and blend them in so they look like part of the barrel.

I don't know if Faxon is considered either of these but it wasn't super pricey and I've been happy with mine. I'm running an 18" Big Gunner barrel on my Aero Precision AR10.

It gets hot quickly but I expected that with the medium profile barrel. If I do my part, I get 3/4" groups with a 150gr Barnes TTSX over 44gr of Varget.
