I dont need an expensive study to show me what I already know. The right wants to focus on merit and promoting who does the best while the left only focuses on race/identity.
People get sick and tired of having crap shoved down their throat all the time. While some people still might not like gay marriage most dont care what others do as long as it does not directly affect them.

Ehhh, not so much. Left and right have something in common - Human Nature. Both have extremists who want to control everyone else. You see the left's on TV every night, because they are in ascendency now. The right has the religious fundamentalists who would trample our liberties in the name of conformity if they could. Read The Scarlet Letter for an example.
I always say that the political spectrum is really a circle. Start at the top with one moving left and the other moving right. At first you'll appear to be moving away from one another. Soon enough you'll meet at the bottom where Antifa and The Proud Boys hang out. Is there really that much difference between Stalin and Hitler?
