I view them as sort of an entry level, couple weekends a year type of company. The two types of people I see wearing their stuff is always freshly minted backpackers and crusty old dudes wearing the same jacket they bought in 1991

Which is a testament to what Patagonia used to be.

I've had a few pieces of clothing from them for around 10 years. It's held up well. I just bought a better sweater a few weeks ago, haven't had the chance to wear it yet.

That's what I see wearing Mountain Hardware, Arcteryx, because they don't want to be seen as posing but in reality they are.

You’re trying way too hard.

Their baselayers are as good as any on the market, and if you actually got out into an actual backpacking environment, like Mt Katahdin in August when people are finishing up a long 2200 mile walk from Georgia, you’d see their synthetic puff jacket as the most popular on the trail for a reason. You don’t give a shite what you look like after 2000 miles, you care only about weight and function.
