Portland, ME to Acadia

Driving from DC to Portland, then onto a week around Bar Harbor.
Any restaurant reccomendations around Portland, on the drive to Bar Harbor and then anything hidden in and around Acadia that is a must do.
There's been talks of overnighting on an island on the Maine Island trail a night or two. I've got most of the major hikes and known seafood spots marked. With COVID and a dog, we'll be outside dining most of the time. Thanks in advance.

Freeport(shopping) has all the outlet shops and the original LL Bean.
Once you hit highway 1, you’ll go through some cool small towns like Wiscasset, Damariscotta, Rockland and Camden. To me, Camden is the most idyllic coastal village anywhere. You can enjoy the view of the harbor from Mount Battie.
If you have time to venture off Highway 1, Boothbay Harbor is really cool too, but it’s probably 45 minutes or more off Hwy 1.
I recommend getting off the hwy in Damariscotta and going to Pemaquid Point. One of the most photographed lighthouses in the world.
As for food, it’s been several years since I last went, but Red’s Eats serves their famous lobster rolls in Wiscasset. The Sea Basket in Wiscasset is a small town fried seafood joint that’s good.
Other than lobster, you go to Maine for the scenery and not the food. Sorry I can’t be more help with restaurant suggestions.
Edit: looks like Boothbay Harbor and Pemaquid are about 25 minutes off the hwy...but separate locations.

Central Provisions for sure. Do the chef’s tasting
Duckfat and Eventide are great.
We made the drive up to Bar Harbor but was disappointing to be honest. Very touristy with cruise ships. Acadia was cool.
Boothbay Harbor is nice and worth a stop.

I’ve always stayed on the Mid-Coast and I’ve only been to Old Town once and don’t recall eating there. So my comment wasn’t considering Portland. I apologize I didn’t clarify that for you.

If staying in the Bar Harbor area, a great day trip is to catch the “mail boat” at south shore harbor and go to Cranberry Island and Islesford Island. They are very unique places and you get a good idea what life is like in the area. Round trip ticket is about $30.

Downtown Belfast is really cool too. They have a walking trail through front street shipyard. If you have extra time a drive down the castine road is pretty and ends at my college, Maine Maritime. Castine is a quaint little village with 3-4 revolutionary war time forts

We did the DC to Portland drive 2 weeks ago.
Most of the good places have already been mentioned. Scratch Baking in South Portland is fantastic and right next to a nice beach.
There are a ton of great breweries that have built large outdoor spaces around Munjoy Hill.
