Is it just me or is anybody else happy to replace Stewart and his zillion false start penalties with JB. We were almost dead last in penalties and still won it all. Imagine if we shave a few hundred yards of yellow laundry off.

I will enjoy that but I will miss his run blocking.

Well, if Barksdale delivers as expected...it's going to be another fun year for us!

i agree for the first 6 games, but carnell turned it around. alos, that dude had serious fire and loved it - he always ran down the field and got crazy

i believe he was matched up on gholston in the title game and did a pretty good job. still, i think we are upgrading with big joe.

Of course, but it wasn't just the false starts. It was the breakdowns in pass blocking, the unsportsmanlike penalty at a key juncture in the Bama game, and just generally looking lost out there. I will say towards the end of the season, his run blocking was pretty good at times.

Carnell got better as the year went on, and was an absolutely devastating run blocker.

Unfortunately pass blocking wasn't a strength of his and he did get a lot of penalties.

Hopefully Barksdale will be better at pass blocking and we won't lose too much in the run game - I'm suprised at how many fans don't realize how good a run blocker Stewart was.

His biggest blunder IMO was taking his helmet off to yell at a ref during the Bama game and costing us 15 yards on top of the 5 yards we already had from a false start penalty.

I was shocked at the way he handled Gholston though. I was really sweating that going into the BCSCG.

barksdale is going to be a great football player reguardless of what side of the ball he's on ... he was a beast in the 2007 spring game on the defensive line

That's not a huge knock, though. I was dissatisfied with his play most of last season but he really brought it in the title game.

Steroids can only do so much.

In Stewarts defense, it was only his second year at OL and he had barely played at all the year before.

Are you serious? VG was in the backfield most of the game, and Stewart was on his heels. Matt Flynn just played a hell of a game and moved his feet well. Then again or WR's killed their DB's and Hester was hitting them in the mouth up the middle that VG was not much of a factor. All in all Steward did not handle VG, get that right.

I agree that the false starts were horrendous. But, as Tiger Veins pointed out, Stewart took control of gholston & company in the MNC game. As I was flying up to the game from Tampa, a fellow tiger fan asked me what concerns I had. I told him that I was worried about Gholston running all over Stewart-was I ever wrong. I like players who have a lot of passion on the field. Stewart was always downfield celebrating after a good run and helping the running back get back up. He seemed to improve as the season progressed. The latter is probably due in part to good coaching by Studrawa.
