Ok, I couldn't find the rules on that, everything I read made it sound like you could bundle the trade exception with players.

I couldn't find it spelled out like I remember seeing in the past, but I believe this is the relevant line:

A non-simultaneous trade is one where you get the 1 year "trade credit", what we commonly refer to as a trade exception.
