My church is forming a group to go down and aid in anyway possible. I was in the Guard for 10 years and know the situation but I’d like to hear directly what is mostly needed so we are able to make a real relief trip that makes a difference in your lives.

If you could form a water damage restoration company that actually calls people back and worries about people other than their own employees, that’d be great.

A few things I see.
Free tree service and yard clean up. Just go walk the streets of the poor neighborhoods. These people don’t have the $ to pay for this and insurance doesn’t pay for it unless it fell on their fence or house.
Even the ones that can pay are getting price gouged really bad.
Ice and water are very helpful
Free meals...there’s a lot of these but the lines are generally long. No where to really eat for anyone right now other than pack your own or get in one of these lines.

quote:Generator gas to poor neighborhoods would also be a good one. Big fan of the yard clean up idea if you have the people for it.

Chainsaw work would probably be best.

Check an entergy map. Some of LC has power but much does not. Hit some of the areas of north LC. Those areas are most in need.
On top of generator gas, consider bringing things like non perishable foods, ice/water, ice chests, diapers, baby formula, feminine hygiene products. Anything to wash clothes is very helpful too - wash tubs, detergent made for hand washing, retractable clothes lines for drying, etc. Large trash bags are another good one. And kitty litter...can put that in refrigerators to help remove the rotted food smell.
Yard cleanup is a great idea. Also bring supplies to help clean up inside homes, even if you don’t do it yourself. Anything to help mitigate mold is helpful, many people don’t know how to clean that properly or just can’t find the supplies to do so.
