I have St Augustine grass and it’s almost wiped out. Anyone else with this issue? What are y’all doing about it?

Might be sod web worms - bifen it solves that. It is likely too late though if this is your issue.

What is better bifen or talstar?
Posted on 9/10/20 at 2:40 pm to Janky
Bifenthrin is the active ingredient in Talstar.

I have them too. What would be the best course of action?

I'm out in Houston and follow Randy Lemmon's schedule. I had the same problem about 3 weeks ago. Followed this schedule and my grass is looking much better.
Day 1:
Granular bifenthrin (I prefer Bug Out, because it’s the strongest.)
Liquid bifenthrin (Which, applied after the granular product, helps water it in)
Day 3:
Liquid bT (Organic Caterpillar & Webworm Control)
Day 7:
Liquid bifenthrin
Day 10:
Liquid bT
Day 13 or 14:
Liquid bifenthrin

My lot is 3/4 acre. How much do you think it will cost for that plan?

Sod webworms. They are horrible this year. I have a buddy in BR that is a landscaper and he said this year is the worst he has ever seen them.

Lived here for 15 years and never had them around until 2-3 years ago. Now they’re here every year and can conform this year is the worst. I hope they aren’t here to stay. Although, I have figured out how to kill them and it’s pretty effortless. Just have to have the product on hand because at the first sign of chewed blades, it gets applied and insta-kills them. I’ve only had to do that once all summer, and I’ve perpetually had moths all summer as well but I Have learned to ignore those.

I have native plants and don't try to maintain an unatural monoculture. I welcome insects of all religions

I’ve got several 1/8 acre patches of sod webworms unfortunately, figured out what they were after reading the prior thread on here. Bifen XTS is oil based and has a longer residual time than regular bifen. It works out to be a bit cheaper than granules or regular bifen.

How will you be applying it? A backpack with a fan tip will spray .67 gallons per minute and it should be applied at 1,000 square feet per minute. Liquid Talstar is 1oz of product per gallon of water. 20 gallons will treat 30,000 square feet. You’ll have enough to spray it several times.

Are you sure this math is right? 20 gallons for 30,000 sq ft seems very heavy? Also .67 gallons per minute is an extremely heavy spray I don’t have a backpack sprayer but none of my pump sprayers come any where close to this, it would be more like 1 gallon every 10 minutes.
I’ve been doing 2-3 gallons of talstar for what I’m estimating is 10,000-12,000 sq ft of grass and that kills the moths immediately for 6-8 days.
