I feel foolish asking this, but I need some advice on TV at Tailgates. I've never been in charge of that part of the tailgate before this year so I don't actually know how it all works.

What do most you y'all do to get TV reception at a tailgate? DirectTV, Dish network? What works the best? I have access to DirectTV eqipment, but do I need to have a full subscription to access it? I would really only use it 8 times year so I'd rather not change up my whole cable package.

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated and cold beer will be waiting come August 30.

Start drinking now like I did. It helps with depression when no football is on.

We use DirecTv...I just bring one of my boxes, rabbit ears for the locals, an old dish that I still have and a tripod for it. And yes, you'd have to have some sort of subscription to access it.

ETA...it just dawned on me what you meant about the subscription. I think you can just subscribe for the months during football season.

Anywhere in the blue you can get on LSU's wifi. The slingbox is an idea i've often wanted to see if the wifi connection woudl be fast enough for it.

You just need a PAWS login. If you don't have that, you can't create anything.

You can create one for me though :)

get directv and dont look back. but if you dont know how to point it get someone who knows what they're doing. we're balling with the 5 lnb this season. not the easiest thing to point on your own but we've got it down after a couple of trial runs this summer.

Also note that with the new secure wireless system that it isn't quite as easy to just log in and go.

The first time when you try to log in you are redirected to a page on how to reconfigure your computer to match LSU's security settings. Even if you are computer savvy it can be a pain in the arse.

I have used my Slingbox from lot F by the track stadium, it works pretty good, but not without glitches. I didn't use LSU wi-fi, I used my Verizon air-card, it is the only brand that can get over 1k download for a decent picture, but now you are limited to 5gb a month.

Suggest you drive out to your paking area with your laptop and test it out on the wi-fi. The Slingbox is a bandwith hog, if there are a lot of people using them on gameday the signal might degrade.

If you know someone w/ Direct TV who has an extra box (who'll let you use it on gamedays) all you need is an extra dish. That's what we do (to get around the subscription issue).

Using an FTA satellite is also an option. FTA (Free To Air) is free & completely legal but they can be altered to catch dish network stations for free with very little effort. FTA for Dummies
