I'm looking at a used 2009 wrangler. 117,000 miles, V6, manual trans. Has a new soft top. Anything I should be aware of on this model year to look out for problem areas?

Dealer asking about $13,500

The first problem area I notice is the price.

Hope this helps.

Only buy if it is white so it can play Dave Matthews
Sorry you are tying to relive your college days

Wrong engine.
Wrong transmission.
Wrong top.
Wrong price.

Not too out of line. I sold a 2004 with around 80k miles last year for 12k. All depends on how well it is kept up. If it has been drug through mud and ragged out, no way that's a good price. But if everything looks good, not too bad.

Forgive me for my ignorance on jeeps, for the record I think they look pretty cool. Do they have a reputation as lasting super long? I know super old jeeps go for crazy high prices. Also seems like I would want something with a V8 if it was older and higher mileage while also being a pretty penny.

Some Jeeps that age are worth that price. The mileage, soft top and manual probably have it overpriced by about $1500.

OP should know that the engine will probably only last a little bit longer. It is probably already burning oil.

Is it? I looked up the trade in on my 2011 this weekend and it was ~15k.

An 11 year old Jeep with over 100k miles? $7,500, maybe.

Yeah, I know Wranglers kind of have their own market so it likely is the accurate market value.

No way I'd pay that much for 11 year old Jeep with that many miles on it.

Yikes I paid 10k for a 2015 4 door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with 110k miles. There are better deals out there.

But once you get a jeep, it's like you turn into a new person. All the females on the road will be admiring you and all the truck owners are jealous. You also must take it off roading. Jeeps aren't meant to be city cruisers.

Seriously, though, they're fun to drive. Just don't plan on hauling any decent sized boat or camper with one. Their towing capacity is very limited. I think somewhere around 3,000 lbs max.

Word. The older engine with a stick is a dog. You have to shift all the time.

OP, if you have $13k to spend, buy the best TJ you can find.
