As a lifelong Bama fan, here is how I look at it....I was raised cheering for Alabama football. Some of my earliest memories were from being out Saturday shopping with my mom who was a graduate from there getting so excited about the football, the leaf piles to jump in, the crips autumn air, just that feel of the season. It’s forever etched in me. I”be been a stalwart fan year in and year out...even in the lean times.

To me Bama football is more than a few idiot players who espouse some misguided beliefs. It is more than some disappointing times and disappointing seasons, those will happen. However as a lifelong fan, I am not, absolutely not, going to let some individuals in the program take the joy I have had following the team over the years out of me. Screw that! When one refers to a person as a Fairweather fan, it’s not just about the record, the wins and losses, it’s about the whole package. That package is a part of my family, it’s part of my culture, and it’s part of me.

I know many of you LSU fans, you have similar experiences as I do. After last year’s magical run, you have some great memories to hold on to. Don’t let this short term issue with some misguided individual players running their mouths take the whole package and all that it brings you from you either. Keep the flame, keep the joy, keep it in its perspective as the fun escape that it is because at some point it will return.

You have dealt with losses before, I know, we have given you plenty. Just kidding, had to get that dig in, but treat this as a loss and know better times will be ahead. From one diehard football fan to another, and a fan of a particular group of players who have mouthed off, I get it. But I am looking forward to better times. as we have to on occasion to get to this awesome pinnacles both our teams get to frequently.

This isn't a short term issue, this nonsense has been going on for some time which is why I've turned most of it off years ago.

Let it burn.

And when it does, I might be back...maybe.

Until then, my absence is entirely their fault. They ruined a nearly 40 year relationship I've had with the athletics department since I was 10 years old. It broke my heart to give up my season tickets for next year, which would have been my 20th season. But I could not, in good conscience, support either financially or through my presence what LSU athletics has become.

Honestly, I think continuing to support them while they do this in the hopes they will change back only emboldens this kind of behavior. it's like a battered wife sticking around because one time in the past the guy wasn't such an a-hole and maybe he'll change back.
