coon cuffs with catfood in the bottom. I prefer to shoot them though because the meat is better when they haven't been stressed all night.

Did as a teen. It was fun then. I don't have the stomach for it now.

My boy runs a few dog proofs with corn around the deer feeders when we go camp during spring and fall.
Occasionally use same baited with cat food in the back yard when one keeps tearing up the bird feeders.

I trapped all the time as a yougun, back in the 90's you could get $18.00 for a coon hide and $5.00 for the meat.
My dad had a bluetick coon dog that was badass too.
I remember selling hides and getting $1,500 - $2,000 as a teen, I was in high cotton.
We also trapped fox / Coyotes

Peach rings or Marshmallows on the trigger with a marshmallow sitting on top for DP's. A shot of fish oil doesn't hurt.
You can really tear them up with pocket sets using 1.5 on a creek bank.
Bucket set with a 160 is deadly, catfood for coons and possum but if you throw in a duck carcass you end up catching a lot of bobcat as well.

I got away from marshmallows on the dukes, they seem to attract the ants. Do you guys think it matters if they are full of ants?
Picked up some fish oil to use this year with the cat food.

Biggest problem with ants is it can attract skunks. Other than that it's no big deal. I normally only prefer the dps if I'm in areas with cats or loose dogs.
Act like you are trying to catch yotes and they will throw themselves into them with reckless abandon.

Duke is the worst junk imaginable, Victor or bust.

I have moved completely away from coils for coyotes when possible. I have some bridger offsets, music wire spring, night latched, baseplate, lams, etc. Basically everything that can be done to them. Unless it is a long line I use nothing but longsprings now.
Old vic longsprings with stepdown pit pans, stainless round dog with about 4 pounds of tension. They bed rock solid and if I show up and they are popped, there is an animal in it. I'm not sure I'll ever go back.

I like your style, most of my trapline is purple clay its a MF to bed longsprings.
I like a little eye appeal and pro's choice #3 for cats and coyotes

I'm in an area that is predominantly gumbo and clay. I've found a 4 pound hammer with 3/16 plate welded to it makes a mean digging tool. Its a pain at first but now I'm faster with longs than I am with coil.

I used to love Hiawatha valley bait or just some extra bobcat or beaver chunk. Violator 7 was my favorite but used a lot of plain castor as well. I love a good dirt hole but when possible love blind setting. Had a couple trails where one trap would pull 5 or 6 yotes/cats a week.

You serious? Honestly less suffering than fishing, gigging, bow hunting and several other accepted outdoor pursuits.

Which one do you take umbrage with and have you trapped? Now I'll admit that most of my evidence is anecdotal and I'm far from professional at any of them but I think my best year was 150ish beaver, 40ish coyotes and a dozen or so cats. More rats, possum and coon than I care to count.
Gigging I don't think I need to explain. That is barbaric. Same with bowfishing or spearfishing is the same. I don't have a problem with it but lets be honest, its rough on the animal.
Bow hunting I personally had double lunged animals run 600 yards. I've spined deer and had to finish them off. I've helped track gut shot deer that lived for over 24 hours before we found them. In a perfect world yes I've dropped them after walking 30 yards but I've seen ugly.
Fishing- I've had hooks buried in me and had traps snap of me. The hook was worse and no one was forcing me in on that.
Most conibear traps kill rather quickly with many not taking a single step. Often with foothold traps I've woken the animal up.
Now I'll admit to spending more time making sure my traps are properly tuned, rough edges smoothed etc. but its not torture for the animal even with factory traps.
