Hoka for actual athletic pursuits or all day standing I'd think. They look dumb but they're good if you want max cushion. There are increasingly more competitors for that category, though.
Ons are great for travel or general walking, but they're not as plush. But they are light and streamlined. I certainly prefer them for walking the dog or running to the store because they don't feel as clunky and they look a lot better. I wore a hole in my Ons after like 6 weeks though, and I'm not particularly hard on shoes (and didn't run much in them).

I should have said I was looking for trail runners for hiking. I am 6'4" with girly ankles prone to rolling - I've sprained my ankles at least a dozen times, collectively. The On Clouds did seem fine for just every day wear, but not for my intended use. The only Hoka trail runners the store had were green and orange like Miami U colors. Just awful.
