TCL's new 6-Series TVs rival LG OLED screens at a third of the price
quote:
The LG CX OLED have some seriously affordable competition this year: TCL just announced that its new 6-Series QLED TVs will use Mini-LED technology to offer OLED-level contrast and cost a third of what LG's 2020 CX OLED does.
What we didn't know, however, is that besides the new Mini-LED technology that replaces the traditional LED backlight, TCL has redesigned the legs so that you can neatly hide HDMI cables and that the 6-Series will be the world’s first TV with THX Certified Game Mode that utilizes the 120Hz panel, Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Game Mode to enable smoother gameplay on consoles that support 120 fps gameplay – i.e. the Xbox Series X and PS5.
So how much does it cost? According to information from TCL today, the 6-Series will be available in the same sizes as last year (55, 65 and 75 inches) and it starts at just $649 for the 55-inch TCL 55R635. The step-up TCL 65R635 will only set you back $899.99 and the monstrous 75-inch TCL 75R635 only comes out to be $1,399.99.

china is asshoe
but TCL makes a damn good budget tv

Unlike OLED that tops out around 700 nits of peak brightness, these new Mini-LED TVs would offer a peak brightness of above 1,000 nits - making them an even better option for watching HDR content and better suited for daytime viewing than an OLED TV.

I have last year's 6 series TCL Roku, and I love it and it got rave reviews or incredible picture quality for the price. Only issue with it is that it's a 60 hz panel, so that some pans for movies filmed in standard 24p can appear choppy, but otherwise the color, contrast, black levels is incredible, and I'm coming from high end but older Panasonic. This latest model with 120hz and mini led qled for similar price is incredible. TCL rocks, and so does Roku.

It will be interesting to see if it has a great picture when viewing from wide angles like the LG OLED and Samsung Q8 and Q9 QLED have. To me that’s what separates those TVs from the rest of the under $2000 TVs.

I have 60” Samsung from 2016 that's developed white spots where the led lenses have become unglued. Does this new technology use those glued on lens thingies? I can't spring for oled, but this looks intriguing.

Random, but does anyone know how high the bottom of the tv sits when using the legs? My center channel speaker is 5.9” and I like the look of the tv sitting on the cabinet if it’s possible.

Yeah, but how is off-axis viewing? OLED is the king of viewing from the side.

Wow this thread blew up!
Any mention of the cost of a 75” one at the Costcos or Sams or when they will become available?

These TCL mini-LED 6 series holding up after reviews and people buying them?
Thinking of getting a 75”.
Any issues connecting with my soundbar? (VIZIO SB3651-F6 36” 5.1)
