Brandon Harris on 2015 season: teams were calling their plays before the snap

"They're running left"
Video interview with Doucet in link.
Says in the interview that Fournette would be begging him in the huddle to change the play because teams knew they were going to run him and which direction.
Brandon seems like a good kid, and I hate at the crap he had to go through (a lot of it earned, maybe), but nobody stood a chance in that Les Miles offense.
Interview is only 5 minutes long.

LSU, as a team, roared out to 7-0 start and debuted at No. 2 in the CFP rankings but eventually lost three games in a row, beginning with a terribly disheartening defeat at the Alabama Crimson Tide.
In a recent interview, former LSU quarterback Brandon Harris recalled Fournette’s monstrous 2015 campaign and the frustrations of that season.
Harris said even during the undefeated start, the offensive skilled players weren’t happy with the unimaginative approach. He added opposing teams, Alabama in particular, were calling out the Tigers’ plays before they even snapped the ball.

No shite.
LSU had a Madden '93 Playbook. Run right, run left, toss dive, middle screen, 7 yard hitch.

Been watching the Saints and LSU since 2001. LSU 2014 - 2016 was the most frustrating viewing experiences I had as a fan. I damn sure watched every game, but it was incredibly difficult at times.

You left out the obvious long developing play action on 3rd and 9

Harris was a little too confident in fulfilling his recruiting ranking destiny that he forgot to continue his development in college which continued at UNC after he graduated. Miles killed our chances but Harris was never the answer. It is amazing how many skill players we had on those teams. Not sure how Miles recruited kids to play here that he never intended to utilize.

Look we all know the lack of creativity on offense existed under Miles and LSU could have had Spurrier as offensive coord and Miles probably would have overruled him.
Bottom line, the QB's LSU recruited also played a part as well. He tried to turn Jarrett Lee loose and look what happened. That's what changed Mile's entire philosophy. He let Russell and Flynn air it out under Fisher and Crowton.
With that said, Harris's biggest problem was that he couldn't read defenses, the staff didn't do him any favors and he could never get to his 2nd, 3rd or 4th options. If Harris was any good, he would have shown it in UNC's system that Fedora ran. He wasn't. If he was any good he would have made it in the NFL. He wasn't an NFL QB and neither was most of the QB's recruited by Miles.
If you don't have a QB that is NFL caliber you are not going to win a national title.

Hard to run imaginative plays when your QB can’t hit the broadside of a barnyard door.
But that was on coaching to get that figured

The 2012 Alamaba game popped up on my youtube feed so I found the part in the second half when we were rolling. The long pass play to Copeland was on a play action, and Gary excitedly yelled "he got him" on a screen pass

Regardless, you put him in the right situation at LSU, with a spread offense and Malachi and Dural on the outsides and Fournette and Guice in the backfield, and he could have been at least a top 3 QB in the SEC, and actually had chances to beat Bama.

Think this was the biggest issue with every QB we brought in. Not sure if it's in the video link, but I saw a part of that interview where Harris talked about the differences in playcalls between high school and college. High school would get "chevron" or something and that would be the entire play. In college you'd get a 12 word playcall and he said his head would be spinning walking to the line of scrimmage. He was honest about his limitations, but as always, Les and the staff would never play to their players strengths, making DT QB's run a pro style offense. The times I saw Harris flourish was during hurry up shotgun drives where he didn't have to do a lot of thinking.

My middle son went to Bama for two years. The Bama players were pretty open about knowing every LSU play before we ran it..

what is Brandon Harris doing with himself these days?

He was brought on to the support staff with Texas last May. Assuming he's still there.

Absolute worst was going into the 2016 season how everything was supposed to change and the offense was being revamped, etc etc etc...
Then we got that shi*t 14-16 game against Wisconsin to open the season where the DEFENSE even had to score 7 of our 14 points. Less than 300 yards of offense against freaking Wisconsin, just infuriating.

i had a friend who was coaching for McNeese when we played them in 2010 (the year we were up 16-10 at half and it was almost 17-10 MSU)
he said their coaching staff had our tendencies down. he told me that after 2 film sessions he could identify the majority of our plays by the formations, how we lined up, and the player grouping

Assistant coach in some capacity at Texas last I heard

Hell my brother and I would get 90% of the play calls on offense before they were snapped. Always joked that if you had a good defense like bama or UF that you didnt have to even show up to the film room till friday morning. Nick saban and Les Miles were on a level playing field at the start of 2011. Nick saban after being unable to stop the spread offenses said screw it we going to the spread while Les miles stuck his head in the sand on offense. The rest as they say is history.

Good for him. Regardless of how his tenure at LSU went, I am glad he's successful.

I very distinctly remember LSU was HORRIBLE with telegraphing plays by formation. We used to run this shotgun 2x2 tight bunch, and we almost always Ran a middle screen off of it. I remember calling it out ahead of time, several times. We scored against Tennessee at their place off of it if I recall correctly. But still, we telegraphed the shite out of things
