Future of sports?

So what is the future of sports?
After a 4 month break it seems like people are straying away from the games
Ratings are plummeting for the big team sports (and will plummet for NFL and NCAAFB) , and no fans allowed causing fans to be turned off in the future when they will allow fans back
The economy is down and people out of work, who wants to spend all that money at a game when they seem to have done fine for the 4 months without it
Do we think the old model can last? Or is it the beginning of the end?

The college sports bubble had to burst at some point.

I have Saints season tickets. Have had them for 14 seasons. This year I just got a refund. On the fence about what to do next year. For me sports is a way to tune out the world. It’s so politicized right now that I’m ok without it. I really don’t care about the players having a opinion on things-just do it on their own time. Don’t cram it down my throat.

I've moved on from MLB, NBA. I thought I'd be more into golf but I haven't watched a minute of the PGA this week. Between no sports for 3 plus months and all of the BLM stupidity, I'm surprised how easy it was to just walked away from televised sports. I hoping college football isn't infected by the BLM garbage.

I hope it all crashes and burns and they have to start all over

I thought covid was going to be a great reset where things could finally be put into perspective. It wound up being just the opposite... cramming a bunch of ignoramuses into their homes with nothing to do but read Twitter gave athletes more fuel to grandstand about social justice and cry about being underpaid.
You have to wonder how much farther they will go down this road before they completely destroy the entertainment value of all sports

Everything will be fine for sports once covid passes. Fans need to be in the seats.

I think you'll see a lot of people start an American version of "against modern football" like you've seen in England the last 10 years or so. I'm at the point where I'd rather take the trip up to Collegeville, MN to see St. John's play DIII football than see anything related to Power 5 football.

Well said and pretty much my sentiments. One thing I love about sports is that it's an escape from the real world, especially politics and things that divide us, or at least should be. I've never cared what a player's political leanings were. If they want to be active, they are citizens and have that right. Just don't bring it into the job.
Also, if athletes really want to do something that moves the needle and actually makes a difference, go get involved in your community. Mentor kids and speak at schools. Develop a dialog with law enforcement. Contribute to minority scholarship and inner city small business programs. For all the controversy flag/anthem kneeling gets, it accomplishes nothing. Those who support you would support you anyway. Those you're actually trying to communicate with or influence, you're pissing off and creating an even bigger wedge.
We've become a culture that values symbolism over substance (say this slogan, kneel, use this hashtag, wear this t-shirt). We do something symbolic to feel good about ourselves, thinking we've accomplished something, when we've done nothing to really change things or even made things worse.

The left will ruin sports one way or another. Been saying this for years.
If the NHL players keep kneeling, I'll quit watching that too.
Until the election, the left will push to cancel everything if one person gets sick. This is all political, if you haven't been paying attention.
The useful idiots like LeBron don't realize what is happening to their golden goose.

Pretty much this.
I haven't really watched anything since LSU baseball back in March. Not having the anxiety of being let down by the Pels and Saints has felt really nice though
I think I will probably keep it this way for the foreseeable future. Sports has been such a huge escape for me that it's prevented me from learning other skills or hobbies that I'd much rather be doing, so all in all this happening has been a wake up call for someone like me. To each their own though.

People casting stones on twitters and think it’s activism.
At the current prices, sports is one of the biggest con that exists. How much does it cost for a family of 4 to go to a game? And half the time your team would lose. What’s is the actual payoff?
And someone is right about the politicizing of athletes. You’re less likely to support someone that hates your values or beliefs. Sure you can have and display the “I don’t care” attitude but that not how humans operate. We are social creatures through evolution, and we reflect/deflect our values to others and likewise. And imagine going to a restaurant and waiter takes a knee before serving and telling you about white privilege. It’s a turn off.

Well maybe not MN
But maybe some FCS action in SC!?!

I just realized that the PGA championship was being played. Usually I would be watching it but not this year since the timing is off on everything else.
I think for the 40 plus crowd, sports are no longer a priority as they are in your 20’s. Maybe life changes and you find interest in other things aside from sports
