The constant parroting of lack of accountability seems to have leaked into players’ heads

Once again Gentry said he thought the effort was good “we just didn’t get into the ball on defense enough” - pretty sure that’s an effort issue??
Then Zion had this quote
That is extremely concerning. I honestly think Gentry is just flat out deceiving himself at this point. The lack of accountability has seemingly leeched into the players’ brains and I think this is a massive problem right now. They actually think they’re doing ok and it’s not really their fault.
Zion wouldn’t be saying that if that’s not what Gentry told them.

Zion said the problems today were less about the Pelicans defense and more about the Kings making shots.

Bogdonavic cant even really create his own shot.
I don’t think he took a single shot coming hard around a screen where he’s fading to the side like Redick is forced to all the time.
They were just open looks with no defense. Sometimes we had a mild contest, sometimes not.
It’s not like when Harden is making step backs and there’s basically nothing you can do.
frick I hate Gentry.

Should we really be surprised that a mediocre coach preaches mediocrity?

Spot on, a team takes the character of their coach

Here’s a quote from Damian Lillard, who didn’t make excuses for the Blazers predicament
quote:
“I don’t view us as the team that went to the Western Conference finals (last year), because you are who you’ve shown to be during the season,” Lillard said. “We’ve been unhealthy, that’s true, but we still have a lot of good players and we haven’t played at the level that we need to. But I think now we’re starting to trend in the direction of the kind of basketball team that we want to be. In this situation, we’re given an opportunity and we’re taking advantage of it.”

That’s the difference right there between talent and winning.
