Was considering attempting to launch kayak at public launch in Fourchon in order to access beach from backside to wade fish that end of the island. Yellow in pic shows the route I was thinking. Does anyone know if I would be violating anyone’s private property if I did so? I’m not even sure if it’s doable. But if I’m not breaking any laws I’m thinking I may give it a try.

You’ll be alright. Nobody will mess with you. That’s a longer hump than it looks on the map but still doable.

ETA: we pull my boat up close to the beach on Fourchon and get out of the boat fish. Never had anyone say anything to me.

I think the City of New Orleans owns that. Unless Latoya is out fishing Fourchon that day you should be okay. Also, that launch for some reason has a lot of current, be careful.

dont overlook cruising the shallow bay to the left behind the beach. lots of good fishing in that protected bay but its very shallow on the beach side, so shallow you will even hit some sand bars in the kayak

There's a CPRA construction project going on along the back side of the beach right now. I tried to fish that same cut to Bay Champagne a few weeks back around the time they started the project, and they ran me off because it's a state worksite, and they'll call the cops on you. They are building a big clay berm along the backside of the beach all the way to Caminada pass to catch sand from storm surge. This project also has all the water in the bay muddy as hell. You can catch a ton of school trout and white trout in that bay, but not right now.

They’re building a marsh creation project. What you’re seeing is the containment dike.

quote:

The work on the Caminada Headlands Back Barrier Marsh Creation Project continues this week as crews construct containment dikes which will soon be filled with dredged material creating over 900 acres of back barrier intertidal marsh. Great teamwork with CWPPRA and US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)!
