Will we ever get to a point where "white" and "black" can be used interchangeably?

During my lifetime, I've heard people question why black tv channels, history months, student groups, etc are generally accepted but a white version of the same would be considered deeply racist & exclusionary. Some respond that history dictates that blacks should have special rules/privileges to make up for past injustices.

Setting aside the absurdity of that response, for those who believe it, how long will this continue to be the case? 20 more years? 100? 500? Will we ever truly get to live in a colorblind society?

As long as people stay wealthy and powerful off of this division, you have a better chance of Hillary being President

No, but we will learn to live together and respect one another. Unfortunately this won't happen until we clean our house of race baiting political leaders who make their living off of division and hatred among the "ruled" class.

I don't believe it will happen in any of our lifetimes. We just had a black POTUS yet we debate this mess.

It almost feels like we’re going back in time. I thought the last 20-30 years, we’ve had great strides as a society at being able to be more colorblind. After Obama won his second term, it started getting bad again, but it’s a different kind of racism that our country has never seen before. Minorities are the racists today

No. One is the presence of all colors, the other is the absence of all colors. They are literally polar opposites of each other. Trying to play word games with them is just fricking ridiculous.

Within the context of race we already have words that can be used regardless of race, words like "people" or "Americans" for instance.

I would say.. until there are no more living survivors of the civil rights era would be fair.

Kids don't see color so it will eventually correct itself.

Are there even any “white” entertainment platforms? If we’re being honest It seems like black people are the only ones that use this qualifier: Black entertainment television/ Black history month, HBCU’s, “Black” restaurants, etc

This thread has a chance to turn bad.

I will answer it this way. The mixing and accepting are slowly moving in that direction.

1) I live in South Alabama. 15-20 years ago where certain sections of Mobile County where you may have heard the "N" Word left and right now you see Maw Maw going to Walmart with her Mixed Grandchildren.

2) The younger generations are more accepting of interracial and LGBT relationships.

I think that both of these color (no pun) the lines of one race or the other.

How long do you think we will have “pure” whites people? Within 100 years, I will be expect there are no more than 10-20% of Americans who can trace 100% of their lineage to Europe. Eventually the only “race” in America will be the American race.

Of course, the same type of mindset will just move on to something else divisive because there will always be a faction that doesn’t believe in personal accountability.
