I realize Wiggins is a 4* but an underrated 4* this kid is insanely good.

We have 0 outside corners committed as of right now. We want at least 2. So unless we expect both McKinstry and Marshall (obviously not a chance), we have to take another. Enter Wiggins. I don't even see us getting McKinstry, but this doesn't have anything to do with it.
Many recruiting guys are predicting we take 1 outside corner. We will see

Which powers are you reffering to? The ONLY top team i can see not interested in him was Georgia. Offers from LSU, Clempson, Bama, Auburn, Florida, Miami, USC, and Texas certainly speak to top programs thinking highly of Nate
Don’t think Bama is pushing for this cat. Clemson clearly wanted the other Georgia corner.
I liken this to Major Burns last year. We didn’t quite want him and uga took him. Just think when you’re DBU you hope to get the elite kids you want.
I’m not saying the kid isn’t good. It’s like losing Caleb Williams and getting Nuss instead. Nuss is great and I love his game. But we have a history of not getting the elite guys so I don’t mind losing Caleb. At dbu, our brand has been to get the very best and I think it’s fair to say that Clemson, Miami and Bama/Auburn may be getting the very best of the CB crop this year.

You’ve got to be a troll
You’re right we never get elite guys. That makes skull dragging bama And Clemson that much more impressive

I see what you are trying to say, but I simply disagree about getting “elite“ talent. It seems to me that Corey has an eye for what true talent is over star rating. For example Flott, I don’t remember his exact rating but I do think he was a three star prospect, who is going to be a (great) starter or major contributor at the very least this season.. i think our coaches are the best at identifying true “eliteness”.. regardless tho; the film on Wiggins shows he is one of the “elite” corners this class either way you try to slice it

I could understand if these guys were Louisiana natives but they’re OOS prospects. There’s a lot of variables that go into getting OOS talent. I think what the staff is doing is smart. Looks like they’ve identified an elite talent at corner who has as much interest in LSU as we do him. Get him on board then you go head to head for the others. Have others that you’re recruiting who may not be as highly ranked but is clearly talented in case you miss on some. I don’t think they’ve given up on any of the corners but see someone they can get on board now and if we happen to fail we can move players around or go after someone maybe not as highly ranked but clearly elite. Simple imo.

I agree on Flott and Ward but they camped and we’re secondary CBs in a class got included Stingley
Did Wiggins ever camp at LSU? Just seems like coming off a Natty and with the DB coach being recruiting coordinator, DBU has a strong pitch to kids especially if we potentially only take 1 outside corner. A kid like McKinstry or Marshall could be THE man at dbu.
Didn’t mean to get panties in a wad over an observation. Like I said, it’s clear Wiggins is a good prospect with all the tools. I also think we wanted other kids over him and have had to move down our board a bit. Not a huge deal, just an observation.

I don't think we had to move down the board at all. We have targeted Kool aid, Marshall, Johnson, and Wiggins as our priority corners all along. Wiggins is not a back up plan at all. He fits everything Raymond is looking for and has incredible ball skills as a WR in his highlights. His future is bright in P&G.

Well that doesn’t make sense because we obviously were never going to take 4 corners like you listed above.
If gaquincy or Marshall or the other Georgia kid committed to LSU, would we still take Wiggins? If the answer is yes then what you say has validity. But if we were only taking one then he was probably not our first Or second choice.
Again, not a big deal. But you can’t have it both ways. You can’t say we are taking 1-2 DBs but wanted 4. If we end up getting one of the elite kids and have 2 in this class then it’ll prove me wrong. But if he’s the only outside corner we take then it’s fair to say we likely slid down the board to take him.

We are solid at corner with 1 in my opinion
I take it you don't think anyone could ever get hurt? Have you looked at the DB depth? It is like only one recruiting class in our CB room. That is no way to build depth and continued success. We should recruit at least 2 CB a year.
Nickel is the new base defense against all of the spread teams.

He's the number 2 CB on Raymond's board over Marshall and we are still recruiting McKinstry.
We will take Wiggins and shoot for the fenses on the other ones.

Of course we weren't taking four corners. You gauge the interest of all the top guys at any position and hope a few have sincere interest. That's how recruiting works. No school signs all of the top guys on their board.

But it’s not though. It’s one recruiting class plus the #2 CB in another class. That’s only one guy but it’s a guy with 3 years ahead of him who should lock down a spot as soon as he gets a shot. Any kid we get this year probably isn’t seeing the field for at least two years after he gets on campus, which I think also made recruiting DBs a little more difficult this year; the kids know that. I agree it’s strange to see us not get a top 3 CB for instance. Not to mention it is difficult to recruit against Clemson, OSU, and anyone in Alabama (4 of the top 7 CBs fall into that category and we get #9).
In any case, the point is that we actually don’t have an immediate, or even near future, need at CB.
Soph - 2 years left at least
-Stingley (Best to do it since PP7)
-Flott (Will start at one of the 3 CBs for next two years)
-Ward (Already a solid backup in rotation)
-Radar Jones (Next man up after Ricks)
Freshmen - 3 years at least
-Ricks (#2 CB; probably struggles to get on the field this year because of current depth)
-Mcglock (not highly ranked but supposed to have a ton of potential)
That’s 6 solid kids all with least 2 years left not even counting upper classmen and recruits like Sage and Mo Hampton who should play safety. For anyone to be good enough to get in front of Stingley, Flott, and Ricks, he’d basically have to be another Stingley.

Dont think he understands how it all works. It happens.
Wiggins has been a take for a couple of months minimum. Nothing to do with McKinstry. McKinstry is the top guy but also one you're gonna have to wait with. So the way to work around that is set the minimum at 1 with plans t take 2 if the right 2. Wiggins is one in hand then shoot for the fences with McKinstry/whomever else they're willing to take as a plus 1. Essentially the same way we are handling Korey Foreman. Not necessary but a want you make room for. Plus 1.

To be fair, Wiggins name didn’t really start popping up until recent months. And its not like he camped to earn the offer.
Thus it’s easy to assume we didn’t like the feedback we were getting from the top dogs and moved down the board. Pretty logical actually

Agree with your take. I would add that Camar Wheaton is in the same category. You already have a really nice back in Kiner. You could probably roll with just him, but Wheaton is the +1 that would be hard to pass up on.
It will be very interesting to see how O prioritizes the remaining scholarships in this class.
I really want Fidone in this class, but Trigg would be a more than adequate option. Don't think #'s will allow for both.

While this may be true, I think that he is higher on our board than he is ranked on the recruiting sites
