I watched as well, thought I heard them say two things:

1) the seismographs are no longer operational, was some federally funded program in the ‘80’s.

2) the structure of the stadium back then was conducive for “vertical sound waves” or something like that and the since expansion has messed with that conducive setup up...whatever that means?

My own theory to add...no one in 1988 had their heads buried in their cell phones...all attention on the game.

Doing what? Waiting for their phone to not receive any messages? Not sure if you’ve been to tiger stadium since the invention of cell phones but the service in their is horrible.
