Here are six plays where Zion just plays really bad defense. On some of them, he appears confused. On others, slow. On others, lazy.

That's just what it looks like. I know Zion isn't lazy, so don't throw that back at me. Our defensive rating was 165 last night when Zion was on the floor. Zion's +/- was negative 16, the worst on the team, despite his 13 points in 15 minutes.

I don't say this to be negative. The gears are going to start turning for Zion, and he's going to start remembering his assignments, and he's going to get in shape and be great.

The "half-full" way to look at this glass is that we got poor play from 3 of our 5 starters, and we still almost won the game.

To be fair they’d tweaked the defense and a lot of the implementation could have happened during his leave. Zion didn’t look slow on the offensive end.

His abysmal defense in the NBA is really strange.

He was an elite defender in college. Not good. ELITE.

But so far it has been by far his weakest element. Yes, rookies generally struggle on Defense. But he has been really, really bad.

I wonder if its conditioning or if he just needs time mentally on it.

I think you said it and don’t need to apologize for it, looks lazy. Completely different than what he was at Duke. It’s baffling
