Trolling Rattle Traps or Swim baits

After catching a limit of specks a few weeks ago, I had the unfortunate experience of a faulty oil sensor and broken oil pump at the same time. I took the time to rewire and do updates on the boat, while I finished up the new powerhead.
I now have to go through the break-in period but my kids are adamant about fishing this weekend. I hope to put some hours on the engine and let them do some easy trolling. Is anyone doing any trolling in or around Hopedale / Shell Beach? If not I might just run the Rigolets and let them catch some reds at a few cuts.
Thanks in advance!

I had my trolling motor crap out in April and we decided to troll the rocks on the big motor after the boats cleared out. We got bit a few times and managed to catch a big bull red. We were dragging live cocahoe
If you're gonna idle around for hours and hours might as well drag baits while you do it.

as with any fishing method there is an art to it you have to learn
go watch the youtube videos of trolling the causeway and then apply that to where you go
main keys are weight and amount of drag of the bait and letting out the right amount of line so that decides how deep the bait swims

I watched an old man destroy specks this winter trolling the Hwy 11 bridge.
Everytime he trolled past me he got a hit. I guess he felt bad after awhile and told me he had his limit and offered to give me some so he could keep on fishing.
I took the moment to pull him up to my boat and pick his brain . He said he uses lead core line and let’s about 150ft out. He was pulling a rattle trap with some plastic squid looking thing Ive never seen before trailing about 6 ft behind the rattle trap.
It was quite impressive. He then made a jab at me and said son you don’t need that $60k bay boat. This little boat cost me $3k in the 90’s hahahah.

b2 squid. Rattle trap with a b2 squid has been killin em for ages.
A lot of people do this up and down river mouths that lead in to bays along the Mississippi coast in the dead of winter

I’d definitely hit the Highway 11 bridge and do as low of a speed trolling as possible. Watch the other boats as well.
Me and a buddy were just messing around a few years back and trolled some soft plastics way behind the boat, we didn’t catch a lot, about a dozen, but they were all 3lb trout.
