Russel never read a defense in college. He dropped back and rarely threw on rhythm. A lot of it was sitting in the pocket having dudes just bounce off of him and he scrambled a little then slung it downfield when Dwayne Bowe eventually got open.

He was a very good college quarterback with great talent just never took the next step mentally that would have made him a good NFL quarterback.

Seems like our receiving corps had some high YAC numbers in those days. Bowe, Davis, and doucet, made some serious plays in the screen game and shorter routes. I might be wrong but it just seems like we didn’t throw many 9’s (vertical routes) with jamarcus.
