I read an article about Nicklaus hitting a 346 yd drive back in the day so for me that should be the ceiling on drives...if you REALLY catch one It’ll go 340-350 on the tour.

What y’all boys think? Like the 400+ drives and 320 averages ??

Equipment is better. Knowledge of ideal conditions actually exists compared to then. Data plus video plus training will all cause these numbers from guys who are much better athletes. Don't mind them hitting it long at all.

I'm not a huge fan of the 400 yard drives, but the technology is so advanced from what it was "back in the day", I don't think there's any going back. Having said that, I wish they would let the rough grow up a good bit. Instead of bombing it and being able to scramble from anywhere, penalize the players more for not finding the fairways.

I was just thinking if the goat hit a persimmon, 346 yds that’s kind of the standard for me.

New technology and add track man and swing analyzers and drives are perfect. Even with drivers from late 90’s like the ti great big Bertha these guys would be hitting extremely long.

I think Rick Shiels did a test with older drivers vs new. There wasn’t as much difference as I thought it would be. Miss hits we’re very different. Modern players don’t fear mis hits so they swing all out every tee shot.

And I don’t care for the huge drives just because it makes older course irrelevant without adding crazy rough or length.

The ball is ridiculous right now, it’s long as hell with hardly any side spin.

Gotta come up with a tour ball if they want to dial back distances.

I don’t really care either way, the only thing I think is dumb is to when they lengthen courses.

Why would you lengthen a course to stop a big hitter, all you are doing is playing into his hands over the guys shorter than him. Lengthening courses makes zero sense.

Grow out the rough.

The ball is so good now. These guys are hitting blades further than ever.

Plus the tour pro nowadays actually works out specific for golf as opposed to what they looked like 40 years ago. Gary Player was one of the few that looked like he could do 20 push-ups.

This is all not working out how you had it pictured is it? Well why we are here, Nicklaus's longest ever recorded drive was 341 yds and 17 inches. So by your metric 346 is way too far for a drive to go since even he couldn't hit it that far.

Rolling the ball back does the same thing.

So, just a couple things here Mr/Ms Zanzibaw:

1. You actually took the time to look up the stat I noted.
2. You did not deny that you were born with both Male and female genitalia.

I think its just fine, your whole game has to be on point to compete. Not like long drivers are just dominating every tournament.

I would like to see the rough grown a bit though.
