Why? Because he's a college educated white guy with no record? I think that works against him here.

Kind of agree. He made a terrible decision while blackout drunk and fought someone, and a guy died a few weeks later. He deserves to be in jail.
But he didn’t actively search out a gang rival and blast away with no regards for anyone in the area, or carjack someone, or drive by murder someone driving on I-10. And those seem to be the types of crimes that get charges dropped or sentences decreased in NOLA.
