I definitely didn't when I heard Donald McNeil's reporting on the Chinese problems containing it and predicting similar trouble here, but he was right and so when he predicted a few weeks later that we'd be oscillating between the hammer and the dance until we had widespread immunity I did believe that (although I thought we'd do a somewhat better job suppressing it than we have, although perhaps I shouldn't have just based on the chaotic national response and abandonment of the national guidelines). I can't say I knew 50 separate state solutions wouldn't work, but I didn't feel good about it.
