It is safer to hide it in public with plausible deniability than it is to hide it outside public areas.
Think of it like this. If you had something valuable to hide would you put it in a safe and let everyone know where the safe is. This is the equivalent trying to do this thing via hidden and secure means. You are giving everyone including law enforcement a specific target. It is just a matter of time before it gets cracked.
Or would you try and hide something in a vastness of distraction/cover. If it looks like everything else, nobody will know where to look. All the intelligence services prefer this method because it is much more effective. Just like hiding operation signals in newspaper articles.

Fits in with some of the weirder ideas in fiction.
In a mostly forgotten James Bond movie, drug dealers used a televangelist as a way to communicate prices and set up deals. Any actual donations made to the televangelist just made for a separate profit.
Ex - the show would say the target for today is $16,000 and that would mean “this is the unit price for X amount.”

Plus, until recently, these people really were untouchable. Look at what has happened for God's sakes. Hillary Clinton got away with sweeping a pedophile ring under the rug within the fricking State Department! When Epstein got caught he was given a 13 month sentence but actually spent most of his time at home!! These people actually thought they were untouchable. So why not do it publicly? Who was gonna do something about it? Nobody, that's who. Until now anyways.

We all know there is some sort of child trafficking ring going on in this post-Epstein era, so lots of people are looking at everything differently.
It sounds absurd and I hope there isn't an ounce of truth to it.

I still find the 10,000 dollar throw pillows to be extremely suspicious and do hope there is already an investigation underway.
