It's not y'all.. It's that all the news is so negative. I can't even think of the city of Seattle without getting mad or depressed. I already suffer from depression disorder but I take citalopram for it and it helps sometimes, but with everything that's going on, it is getting overwhelming. To make things worse, my cancer recurred recurred in January, after three years of remission. So this chemo has something in it that makes me even more depressed, plus being sick half the time and stuck alone in the bedroom. I have no wife and kids. Just me and my 2 dogs. I feel like the world is changing so much, for the worse. I think about the type of people that live in places like Seattle and the far-left antifa type of people and I see that the human race is changing mentally and emotionally. They are being taught in school crazy and evil things that turn them into heartless men and women. When will it go back to normal?

I've been severely depressed.. For a long, long time. Talking 15 years. I'm 34 now. Seems like when the sun goes down and the darkness of night approaches.. It takes over my state of mind right away. My mojo goes dark. All my thoughts become negative, like being alone forever, and there is no escape. It's like the sun goes down and a Blanket comes to smother me and cover up all of my happy emotions. I'm sorry for the sappy post, but I really wouldn't open up and ask for help if I didn't really need it.

Anybody got any tips for dealing with depression?

Any sites that you visit that aren't gonna make me mad or sad?

Sorry to hear about your predicament. All of the ugly things going on in the world certainly don't help any of our moods.

What has worked for me recently is adjusting my diet, trying to get more natural sunlight, and taking some time each day to seek out positive things, no matter how small they may be.

Remember these crazy types have been around before and have disappeared. Occupy wallstreet is essentially a faint memory for me now for instance. 5 years from now these Antifa and BLM losers will be an afterthought in my opinion.

Hope things get better with the chemo man. That really sucks. For the depression, I’d stay away from the news altogether. Just take things one day at a time. Don’t stress about what’s not in your control.

Stay strong bother, distance yourself from things which bring you grief and anxiety, there is so much happiness in this world, it may be harder to find, but it's there. I too have to take breaks sometimes, this is not a good place for someone struggling to find happiness. I find it incredibly brave that you chose to share your feelings, hope is never lost.

My advice is to turn off the news for awhile & limit your online time
Get outside, it’s freaking hot but try to get outside & get some fresh air
Take your dogs for a walk, go sit at a restaurant patio & have a drink
Take up a new hobby

I need to listen to my own advice, it’s hard to not get discouraged but my faith in God helps me to believe good will prevail

I wish you the best of luck with chemo & if there is anything we can do to help please reach out

I’ve never kept my depression a secret on this board, and I’m not ashamed of my daily struggle.
One hour at a time.

The first thing you need to accept is that depression is something that affects you—you did nothing to invite it.
If you had diabetes, you’d treat it.
If you needed glasses, you’d get them.

It sounds like your meds need to be adjusted.
See your doctor ASAP.
My doctor alters my dosages regularly, since life is constantly working its crap on your brain.

Secondly, SLEEP.
If you’re struggling with that, your doctor can help you there too.

Are you religious? Spiritual? Do you meditate? Download some Head Space apps.
My religion is everything to me and saved my life.
I love watching old Christmas movies too .
Whatever takes my mind away from the anxiety and pain.

Finally, know you aren’t alone.
Ignore the anger that currently surrounds us.
I frequently have to walk away from it too.
You need to take care of yourself, and you aren’t.
Please have this discussion with your oncologist, PCP, and/or your psychiatrist tomorrow.
Pick up the phone and do it.

It's always Darkest before the Light, brother.

Frustration? Hell Yeah, I keep waiting for the Hammer to Fall on these seditious/treasonous people, all the way up the ladder, who illegally used the Power of the IC to SPY on an opposing candidate and MAKE UP charges versus innocent American Citizens.

All I can say is keep the Faith in the America that is the Greatest Country ever to be on this orbiting mass we call Earth. Light and Dark. It is very Dark right now, but shine the Light on the frickn cockroaches and they will scramble for cover.

Arresting Maxwell today is a step in the right direction. Take a break, as we all need to do.

In the immortal words of Jim Valvano, "Don't Give Up, Don't EVER Give Up"!

You have 2 dogs that love you unconditionally.

They give you a reason to get up every morning.

I am closing in to the end of this life. I take pills in the morning that knock me out for a good hour. I take them with a kids cup of ice cream from Chick Fil A & I flirt with the drive through girls that I couldn’t get naked in a billion years.

But i still flirt and think today is the day I succeed.

It may help to keep in mind that the people who are acting out represent a small fraction of the population.

But yeah, take a break from it all.

Do something for a neighbor - or a stranger. Really, doing for others can give you purpose and purpose is what can keep you going.

God bless you.

My fellow PT brethren, I can only pray and implore you to seek Jesus Christ, He truly is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

John 16:33 English Standard Version (ESV)

33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
John 14:6 New International Version (NIV)

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

I got sued last year and anxiety set in like a mo fo.

What helped me a ton was learning about Stoicism. It's not a religious thing at all, just a different way of seeing things and coming to the ultimate realization that you can only control you. It really did get me through a very rough patch.

I know you're going through a much tougher situation, but still, the realization that there's nothing you can do about things out of your control is a huge burden off your back.

Hope that helped a little.

ETA; I hope you didn't block this board right after that OP.

Get in touch with God. Talk to him and rest easy knowing that he’s got your back. Turn the news off and get away from computers and hand held devices. Put ur digital life on hold so to speak and make an honest effort to start enjoying and appreciating the real things around you. Start a project around the house. Go for walks. Eat healthy foods. Take a trip.

I let everything that’s going on piss me off pretty regularly too. But I don’t think people are actually any crazier now than any other point in time. I just think the crazy ones have a louder voice now and negative news can be videoed and reported almost as quickly as it’s happening. Social media has become the biggest downfall of our society, maybe ever. Get away from it and interact with the people around you and you’ll realize things aren’t so bad. The vast majority of people are still good. Best of luck. I pray that your treatment is effective and your progress is swift both physically and mentally.

I'm with ya on the depression thing, and I'm sorry to hear about your cancer returning. Just last night I told my wife that I've got to stop following the news and reading the Poli Board 10 times a day. I've struggled with depression, anger, and OCD my entire life. I've always been fairly intelligent in some areas (not math) but struggled in high school and especially in college because I was too stupid and depressed to have the discipline to make the effort. Finally started taking anti-depressants about 20 years ago. Have taken a high dose of Zoloft (300mg/day) for the past 10 years. Just now considering going to see someone who may recommend trying a new med. My wife tells me this stuff only lasts for so long. Maybe you should also consider seeing someone who could prescribe a different med.

Nevertheless, I was pretty successful in sales twenty years ago and made a lot of money - but made some bad career decisions and have bounced around in some shitty sales roles ever since. I have felt hopeless for years and hate that my wife has to put up with me every day. She has enough to deal with.

My advice, and the best advice that anyone could ever give you, is to pray for God to take this depression away from you. The crazy thing is that I know why all this is happening - as I am a big follower of Bible prophecy - but it still makes me angry that life as we know it is pretty much over in this country. God has given this nation warnings and opportunities to repent and turn to Him - but we have just pushed Him further and further away. I believe we are very likely under a final judgement, and He has therefore given us over to reprobate minds. It's almost inconceivable that things have deteriorated so much so quickly, that such a tiny segment of the population can wreak so much havoc on the greatest country that ever existed. But that's how God works, he uses some for good and others for judgment. If you wonder why, Romans 1:24-32 clearly shows us:

24Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity for the dishonoring of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is forever worthy of praise! Amen.

26For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27Likewise, the men abandoned natural relations with women and burned with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28Furthermore, since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, He gave them up to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful. They invent new forms of evil; they disobey their parents. 31They are senseless, faithless, heartless, merciless.

32Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things are worthy of death, they not only continue to do these things, but also approve of those who practice them.

I realize this post took a turn, but understanding Bible prophecy will make you realize why these these things are happening and must happen prior to Christ's return.

Matthew 24
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
