Inevitable result? Not sure about that, but this is certainly one possible outcome of multiculturalism. I think it has a better chance of working if it happens organically, but there's no denying that homogeneous populations seem to report higher levels of happiness.
Unfortunately, with the United States and slavery...despite all our efforts, we've never really been able to move beyond it. Or at least some people haven't. And much like issues in a marriage, if you don't work through them then they will flare up every so often and strain the relationship. Both parties have to come to some consensus and agree to move on. People have been telling Americans for years to move on from 9/11 ("some people did something"), yet for some reason we must always live with the albatross of slavery around our necks forever and ever and ever.

"Separate but equal" ring a bell?
Rest of the world has no problems comparatively because they did NOT take the Separate but equal path.
Races integrate into the UK and they all sound alike, act alike, assimilate into the ONE. Not just blacks, India, HK, etc.. Can't tell who you're talking to racially in UK usually.
At least until Mooselimbs invaded.
Separate but Equal is our problem.

We have not been ALLOWED to move past it because it is a useful political tool for the left. They need division to ensure their power.
