Who is the bigger a-hole, the guy who wears a bandanna over his mouth in the middle of massive group of people, or the guy who doesn't wear a mask and just avoids close contact with others?
You’re introducing another factor.
We’re talking about yes or no mask.
Life is about cost/benefit analysis.
The benefits of the mask may not be enormous the the costs are extremely low too.
And if you want to say people shouldn’t get a false sense of security from wearing a mask wrong or a bandana I would Agree.

I'm introducing a factor that has always been part of this.
I find the forced mask EOs bullshite because of all the other factors involved, which include exemptions for mayor approved large gatherings (ie protests), exemptions for children 10 and under, the unscientific language of the requirements (ie literally any face covering is OK), and a host of other ridiculous things that make these mask laws worthless, and masks themselves ineffective.
Right now, a guy sitting alone in a corner booth at a restaurant not wearing a mask is considered a violator, but a guy at a protest with a t-shirt over his face is good to go.
Masks could be effective, but how they are used, and how the EOs are enforced, make this a sham.
How about the fact that unless the states invalidated them, many have laws AGAINST wearing face coverings in public. This seemingly life saving measure (not specific to covid) was a crime until recently, or may still be in some states.
To use your seat belt analogy, do any states have laws prohibiting the use of seat belts?
