SCOTUS rules asylum seekers cannot challenge removal

WASHINGTON — In a victory for the Trump administration, the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that immigrants whose requests for asylum were rejected in bare-bone summary proceedings may not contest the denials in federal court. The case, which concerns the fundamental question of who is entitled to seek habeas corpus, will affect thousands of asylum seekers.
The vote was 7 to 2. Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan dissented.
The case concerned Vijayakumar Thuraissigiam, a member of Sri Lanka’s Tamil ethnic minority who was apprehended about 25 yards north of the Mexican border near San Ysidro, Calif.
He sought asylum, saying he would face a credible fear of persecution if he were returned to Sri Lanka. His request was considered under “expedited removal” procedures called for by a 1996 law that streamlined asylum applications from people caught near the border and barred courts from reviewing most aspects of the determinations made under the procedures.

Ninth Circuit gets overturned. Again. With two liberal justices joining the conservative majority.
Illegal immigrants caught near the border are owed only one thing and one thing only, speedy deportation and removal from this country. The decision today from the Supreme Court affirms that.
It’s also a major blow to litigious America Last nonprofits who seek to import more communism into this country.

Who is flying these people into Central America and why isn't Mexico good enough for them.

Human traffickers associated with organized crime. The Tamil Tigers militia in Sri Lanka is largely funded through illegal activities. Progressives don't give a damn about this though.

1) These two justices have something in common, but I can't quite recall what it is.
2) When Breyer and even RBG side with the "conservatives," you know the Trump Administration had a solid case.
3) Honestly, I'm a little surprised in Kagan. Often, she will part company with Sotomayor when the appropriate application of the law is clear. Sotomayor is a total lost cause, though. Worst justice on the Supreme Court by far.

So this was the good Roberts vote, wonder what the bad one will be.

This was a major win, although it should have been common sense: citizens have rights, non-citizens have only privileges that we deem to give them.
Even RBG couldn't fight this one. The fact that Kagan and Sotomayor did tells you all you need to know about how disastrous the 19th Amendment has been.

The bad one was DACA where Roberts went all in on the you didn't do it right nonsense. But then again those votes are for immigration.
I've seen some rumors going around DC that conservatives lost the major abortion case this term and if that's true, that's a big blow for social conservatism and the Federalist society.

I’ve heard the exact opposite. The progressives I know are melting down about the hospital admittance privileges case. 5-4
