Would you drive this? 2021 Rogue crossover....Is Nissan actually trying again?

**** hopefully this thread serves as a break from the encroaching marxist take down of American cities, rapid expansion of cancel culture, and Covid-19 threads*****
2021 Nissan Rogue
It's still a crossover, but it looks less like a minivan than before - following the styling trend of the latest Toyota Rav4. The new Rogue is slightly larger than the 2020 Rav4, but less powerful.
It's available with a paint scheme that includes a different colored roof, which is similar to what was offered by the new Mini Clubman and 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer Activ.
The interior is actually very nice looking considering the price point.
Nissan claims that the Rogue will have the largest, most feature-packed heads up display in the segment. I like that they kept the hard buttons HVAC controls instead of building them into a touchscreen.
From Car and Driver:
The selling point here is AWD (for snow belt customers), a comfortable interior, and semi-autonomous driving features that can help reduce fatigue in high traffic commutes. It looks pretty good and should come fully loaded at under $40,000. I like the idea of being able to get all of the active safety gear and semi-autonomous driving features for that price. I like that it looks more like a small truck instead of a minivan. A little disappointed with the carryover 2.5L engine and the problematic CVT though....and Nissan's brand equity is probably behind the Koreans and the Americans at this point.
What does the OT think? Would you drive this if you didn't require a pickup truck or care what your neighbors think?

Like the previous generation Rogue, the 2021 model is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine but it's received a slight power bump to 181-hp. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive will be standard; all-wheel drive is optional.

Fuel economy estimates from the EPA haven't been released, but Nissan claims fuel economy has been improved slightly to 29 mpg combined for the base all-wheel drive model and up to 30 mpg for the front-wheel drive setup. We haven't had the chance to test the 2021 Rogue on our 200-mile highway fuel-economy route, but we should get a chance to do that closer to the SUV's on-sale date.

Standing proud and tall on the dashboard is a touchscreen infotainment system. While an 8.0-inch unit is standard on the 2021 Rogue, a larger 9.0-inch screen is available on SL and Platinum models. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard, and high-end features, such as in-dash navigation or a Bose stereo system, are optional. A 12.3-inch reconfigurable digital gauge cluster is unique to the Platinum model and it's bundled with a large 10.8-inch head-up display and a wireless smartphone charging pad.

The 2021 Rogue comes with a host of standard driver-assistance features to help it compete with well-equipped rivals, such as the Toyota RAV4 and Subaru Forester. Nissan's ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving mode will also be offered as an option on the Rogue SL and standard on the Platinum. Key safety features include:
- Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
- Available adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode

40k for a Nissan Rogue.
Jesus Christ.

Looks like every other soccer mom SUV

It is okay. It still looks like more of the same, though. Not a whole lot to differentiate it from other similar SUVs.

In a world where a $75,000 Chevrolet Silverado isn't unheard of, $40K is not half bad for a family crossover. I imagine that Nissan will put a lot of cash on the hood to sell these. It comes with a lot of tech features and semi-autonomous driving capability. That's a selling point IMO.

Drove a 2018 model or something as a rental a while back and I was quite impressed

I couldn’t imagine being excited about a $40k small arse suv

Sure I would drive it. If you give me roughly $40k to spend on a vehicle, that’s not what I’m going to buy though.

Outside of pickup trucks - the Nissan Rogue, Chevrolet Equinox, Toyota Rav4, and Honda CRV are those brands best selling vehicles. Sedans like the Altima, Camry, Accord, and Malibu just aren't selling as much as they used to.
Those companies are wise to invest heavily in small to mid sized crossovers.

That is only worth about $30k the second you drive off the lot, and won't hold resale value for shite because like all other Nissans, other than the Titan P/U, has the garbage CVT in it.

Have they corrected the CVT problems? I thought they were phasing out the Jatco CVTs that were failing left and right.

What is the best car of that size? Grand Cherokee?
Posted on 6/21/20 at 4:28 pm to Cousin Key
I have a 2017 and my biggest bitch is lack of driver leg room/ place to put your feet. I'm 5'10" and on long trips it's a pain. Great vehicle that gets great mpg. So far the cvt transmission has been trouble free....knocks wood.

The Grand Cherokee is a couple of sizes larger.
I'd probably say that the Subaru Outback Turbo is the best car in the two row crossover segment, but even that is larger and more expensive than the Rogue. It's also technically a station wagon.

It certainly looks better than the current Rogue...but in that segment for that price I would roll with Mazda CX-9

Seems to be a good looking crossover for a good price. I'd worry about the longevity of Nissan's CVT. They just don't hold up as well as the CVTs from Subaru or Honda.
181 horsepower out of a gas motor is just not enough engine for me. It needs a more powerful engine as an option.
