Benicio Del Toro back into the universe.
The only reason DJ isn't the worst character in Star Wars is because of Rose Tico. No thanks to bring back him, Broom Boy, Canto Bite or anything else from Ladt Jedi

OP is on replacing Kennedy; my money is on Favreau with Filoni as his right-hand man. We're seeing that laid out on the documentary series (Chronicle?) Disney+ is running. Favreau seems clearly in charge and appears to know HOW to do what he's doing, and Filoni seems like he's got the vision of WHAT TO DO.
The real problem going forward, for whoever (and for us fans), is to somehow integrate the sequels into the overall tale without destroying things. Because it's really broken right now. We all want them to just delete that line, just like we'd love to delete the final season or so of Game of Thrones . So the real trick is, how do you fix this?
While Ep 8 is the worst in a lot of ways, it leaves some breadcrumbs. We have a wealthy resort planet, apparently on the outside of organized political structures. It isn't really First Order/Imperial, as the makers of the Rebel/Resistance gear are also hanging out. That's like finding an island where GM, Ford, BMW, and Kalashnikov execs can all go hang out... it wouldn't be Miami.
There's some potential there.
The stupid broom scene leaves the Force open, and honestly you don't see the Force being used casually and without training until Baby Yoda (and baby Anakin, in the pod races). But those are from necessity and survival, whereas the broom is just for the sake of using it- it's right outside his grip, he could just reach. That really means the kid is either the most latently powerful Force user ever, or he's been taught.
If you go with the latter, then you need a teacher. Mace was a bit of a joke, but frankly, you could do it- we don't see his death, only his fall. The Robocop/cyborg idea is well within Star Wars level of technology; the timing would be right too. All hell breaks loose immediately after that moment in Ep 3, with Palpatine declaring the Empire, eliminating the Jedi, and betraying the Separatists too. Like I said, groups like the Techno Union would see the sudden move on the Trade Federation, and figure out they're fricked. Anakin/Vader is coming for them next.
Clone Wars gave us Darth Maul attempting to work with Asoka, because he realized what was happening. You certainly could have another faction trying to do the same with Mace Windu;
the opportunity is there. You find a member (maybe the strongest, at that) of the Jedi Council lying crumpled in the street, you might have the tech to save and rebuild him, and you're about to be hunted down. The only other option is to wait for Vader to come kill you, so why not give it a shot?
