Driver Distance Question

I've been hitting the same Cobra Amp driver for about 5 years now. I hit it as clean and good as any club I've ever owned. I can pretty consistently hit it straight with a slight right to left draw and fairly accurate. My problem is I have ZERO distance. I'm talking about drives that go 200-210 yards.
My question is; could it be the club's age? I've never been a terribly long player, but this seems like it's getting worse.

I think drivers do lose some of their pop over time

Meh, I have a hand-me-down TaylorMade Burner I got from my uncle in high school (10 years ago). I still can get 300 out of it. I consistently hit 275+ with it.

Take your current driver to a golf store that has a launch monitor. Hit your driver and a couple of new ones, and compare results. That'll answer your question.

Driver technology has taken pretty big leaps in the last 5 years, even if you weren't having issues, id explore getting a new driver

Unless you are 70 years old you should be hitting your driver way farther than that. I'm guessing you are getting way too much backspin if you are hitting it straight. I bet with a new driver and proper fitting you could get to 240 easy.

I guess that's what I'm going to have to do.

How far do you hit your other clubs? 7 iron?
If you hit your 7 iron 130, probably isn't the driver.

Drivers do lose their profit sure.
Using the right shaft is the best way to gain distance these days.

210 for an weekend golfer, I’d bet, is probably very close to average. That not as bad as you seem to think.
The problem is, the honest folks who will tell you “I average 210-220 off the tee” are few and far between. Sometimes the other “dishonest” folks, in my opinion, aren’t really being dishonest but rather answering that specific question with a yardage that they may have hit a handful of times in their life. “I hit the driver 280-300”. No, you have hit 280-300 yard drives but that’s not their average yardage off the tee. Biggest fib in sports, followed closely by fishing fibs. 95% of the golfers on this board average 220-240 of the tee. Look it up. It’s been widely discussed in many, many different ways.

Keep it in the fairway and you’ll be alright. 210 or 230.

there's no doubt people exaggerate their distance off the tee to an extreme degree

My 7 iron distance is 160ish. All of my other clubs are pretty normal distance wise, I’m just much shorter on the tee than most guys I play with.

I 100% that people who say “I can hit a driver consistently 275” actually don’t, but when I play with guys who are my equal in handicap and game type, I’m ALWAYS the shortest off the tee when it’s driver. Par 3s where we are all hitting 7 irons I’m right with them.

get the right clubhead/shaft and maybe use a low spin ball

Something is off.. You should probably be able to hit a Driver 250-270 pretty consistently.

but... what if it is?

95%?! I highly doubt that.

A more accurate statement would have been 95% of amateurs but his point stands. Amateurs grossly overestimate how far they truly hit their driver. This has been tested and proven.

I agree if you take all amateurs. If you take all golfers that play greater than 25 rounds a year, I bet that number is closer to 250. I play with a group of 16 people ranging from a 1 to a 16 hcp. Shortest person is 240 average drive. Longest is legit 300+ average drive. Numbers would work out to around 260 to 265 average in the group.
