Her dad was going to kill Ellie without her consent for a cure that wouldn’t have done anything to save humanity.

Abby says "if it were me, I'd want you to do the procedure."

Ellie says "you should have let them kill me, it would give my life purpose."

Probably would have been used to elevate the Fireflies and weaponized to make them The foremost force in this world.

This is entirely speculative and not founded in any of the games information. Joel's act to save Ellie was a totally selfish one. Abby killing him was a comeuppance for his sins.

This wasn’t said at the time the decision to kill her was being made, so it doesn’t count as consent. Also doesn’t make Abby’s dad not a monster for going through with killing a young girl for the possibility of a cure.

And wasn’t that possibility under 100% anyway? There were audio logs showing they had tried this type of surgery before and it didn’t work out.

Basically this dude wanted to use human sacrifice of a little girl for the slight chance of gaining a cure that couldn’t even be widely circulated anyway, and I’m supposed to emphasize with that decision? Joel did what any dad would do in that situation and he got her out of there.

You don’t have to play the game to realize this. You also don’t have to play the game to realize that the story is not very good in the eyes of the majority.
