I’m changing my party affiliation to Independent

I’ve always felt the charge from the right that anyone left of center must be a communist and/or hates America to be at best an extreme overstatement and at worst cynical political opportunism, and I stand by that for the most part at least as far as years gone by are concerned.
And for the record America isn’t perfect, and I still believe those on the right turn a blind eye to the inequalities that legitimately do exist domestically as well as the crimes we’ve committed internationally, but I have a balanced view of the world as well as history and can see that on the whole, we’re about as benevolent a unilateral world power has ever been.
And just because I want better for my country that’s doesn’t mean I hate it. And just because I look at America as it is doesn’t mean I don’t see the beauty of it. I can no longer say that about the left.
For all its faults I still love my country, I still believe in the spirit or America, and though we may disagree on its interpretation I still believe in the constitution.
Maybe that’s naive of me but I cannot and I will not go down the road the far left is taking us.
Significant police reform must and will happen, but it has gone way way way beyond that at this point.

“All this but I’ll still vote Democrat. But I’ll be proud of myself because I’m truly a free thinker.”

The only reform the Marxists want is no police at all. The only political discourse that can be done with these heathens now is through the barrel of a gun. Yes we really are at that point sadly

I don’t know that I will still vote Democrat, especially on local elections.

You’ve really sold me on Republicans with this one!

So you're still a liberal, thank you for the update.

I thought you lived in Texas?
You don’t have to affiliate with a specific party.

Dude, sell that elsewhere to people that haven’t lived in some of the biggest cities in America. Dollars to donuts you live in big metropolitan area where mostly the only candidates on the ballot are Democrats and a lonely independent candidate.
You ain’t fooling me, son. I gotchu

Aren’t you in Orleans Parish now?

Being an independent is perfectly fine. In a perfect world we'd all be independent and evaluate every election and candidate solely based on their stances.
Regardless, try talking sense into other moderate Democrats (some do still exist). Many of them have no idea what they are actually supporting by voting D anymore.

I’m actually open to hearing the other side for the first time in I don’t know how long and this is what I have to work with.

If the USA wanted to militarily conquer the world we could. We don’t because we are a law and order country with ideals beyond any empire ever formed on earth.

Maybe, but the police force is the best in the world and people of all races have more freedom and rights than anywhere else in the world. The police brutality mantra is a hoax.

I think you made it clear in your first post that you are open to nothing.

Oh don’t worry I’ve been having a lot of hard conversations with many more on the way

I seriously doubt your vote was hinged on my opinion of you. You and your ilk created this environment now you think changing your party affiliation will distance you from the train wreck you still tepidly cling to and will still support.
