Should definitely be a good weekend inshore and we’ll likely run offshore Friday and Sunday. Just gotta watch what the wind actually does. For Grand Isle and the SE part of the state it looks like the wind will be blowing NNE, NE, Thursday through Saturday night then shif SE Sunday.
Be careful about going offshore when you go Thursday. The surf may be flat with the wind coming out of the north but if it’s blowing pretty hard out of the north those seas can get pretty high the further you go offshore.
If you no experience going offshore in your bay boat, I’d advise you not push it too far or go offshore at all. It get hairy quick.
If the conditions are really good and all your equipment is working, you’re prepared and have a fishing buddy with you you could run a few miles out in your bay boat and try the rigs closer in around Fourchon and Grand Isle. Possibly catch some cobia at 1 mile out or even different grouper, snapper species at 3-6 miles.
I used to run offshore many times in my bay boat and know several people who still do but conditions better be perfect. Luckily me and my brothers have a good offshore boat we use when we want to go. I’ll run a few miles out in my bay boat every so often but I’ve had a lot of experience. Again, just because you have no experience, I don’t think you should run offshore. I actually wouldn’t recommend anyone going too far offshore in a bay boat.
Good luck if y’all get to go and be safe.
