He didn’t say mask wearing is symbolic.
It’s not 100% effective. We knew that.
It helps protect others from you. Hence respect. We knew that.

Hiding under your bed would be more effective, why not that ? The mask thing needs to end now, if you're sick stay home. If you're scared to go out then no one is forcing you, again stay home but don't force others to be ridiculous on your behalf.
