Again, literally every director who has ever made a movie that didn't do as well as expected has a reason why it wasn't their fault. It's in the nature of that line of work as they are project to project and rely on their reputation in their community for future work.

I know right wing outrage culture perpetually needs a target for their manufactured anger, but this is a reach.

i love how anyone that comments on any "SWJ" or left wing complaint its "right wing outrage culture" its the director of this movie that's making it partisan by blaming it and Hilary's "failure" on sexism. Saying ever director has an excuse if his/her movie tanks is a cop out. If he was saying the movie did bad because it came out the week of a hurricane or the studio didn't promote it, that's different than what this guy is saying.

I could buy this in the aftermath of release.

They are touting their failure back into the public limelight 4 years later because they can’t cope that their version is slated to be ignored as if it was never made.

That’s epic levels of denial projection.
