I caught at 65 pound one in a net several years ago in NE Arkansas. and yes, it was an alligator snapping turtle.

Me too. A turtle that size is likely old enough to have been around when WWI was being fought and I respect anything that old.

OMG. That's huge. World record huge. I saw one years ago in the Homosassa River in FL. Was thrashing around on the top of the water. Scariest thing in fresh water in my book.

I'm guessing it's much older than that. They have an exceptionally long life span. A wildlife biologist could determine it's age. I figure about 150 years, at least.

I will never forget one of these monsters slowly lumbering across my yard. My preteen self thought it was a good idea to poke at it with the plastic bow/arrow I was using. It snapped that thing in half like a twig. Learned a lot that day.
