How’s that possible? Pay the man and keep our top assistant here!! It’s not for the head coaching position. He’s our best assistant and works with our guards

Coach Heiar is a being pursued. That doesn’t mean he’s leaving.

That’s a bit concerning. Or at least confusing.

He’s LSU’s #2 assistant and I suspect LSU could play FAR more than ETSU

For the other posters that might be somewhat confused, they are talking about an assistant basketball coach.

Sounds like he wants to get from under Wade. He has not been able to get a mid major hc job And has interviewed for some. So either he feels Wade is seen as the dominant for e at LSU And needs to move elsewhere to prove himself. Or another reason to get away. He won’t be paid more. He is already our associate hc.

Heiar is a heck of a coach. He was an important piece with the Wichita State teams during their run over the last ten years. He helped develop Fred Van Vleet, Ron Baker, and Landry Shamet. Guard development took a step back once he left. Losing him would be a hit for LSU guards.

The old ETSU coach, Steve Forbes, was a firmer WSU assistant. They had reached out to Chris Jans, a former WSU assistant, and now are moving to Heiar. My guess is Forbes gave them a few names for guys he thinks could succeed like he did before he left for Wake Forest.

The last contract info I could find was Heiar making $300K/year. Forbes was up to $600k at ETSU. I’m assuming Heiar probably would start between $450k-$500k at ETSU as the head coach. I think it could be an interesting opportunity for him if he wants to run a program.

Money play possibly. I’ve always thought Heiar wasn’t long for this staff anyway but it’d be as HC at a school like this. Would be disappointing to lose him to that school as an assistant

Getting hired as a #1 asst is ALWAYS a promotion from a #2 position no matter where it is. LSU basketball is not LSU football...

Why? According to this board, Coach Willy is so great that he should be able to coach the team entirely by himself.
