this is why the people shrieking about finding a cure/vaccine are just off. as soon as you lift restrictions, there will be spread. as long as one area with any sort of sizeable population faces, spread, the world faces spread b/c that spread easily passes borders.

shifting our philosophy from mitigation efforts like flattening the curve (to protect healthcare capacity) to elimination efforts (and the shift was silent, i might add) was insane, especially considering we have no plan to have a functioning society along with elimination efforts. we can do it with mitigation, but not elimination.

Spot on. We also didn't even shut down drastically enough for elimination to be a viable option. We've basically been limping along with a reproductive rate just slightly below 1 in most states for a long time without accomplishing anything. Entire thing has been a shite show.
